FOLLOW-UP OF THE NEWBORN IN THE FIRST WEEK AFTER BIRTH
NOTE: In this follow-up, the first evaluation of the baby, Heel blood collection and the mother's puerperal follow-up will be done.
Greet the mother and baby and establish appropriate communication (C13)
II. Problem: • Enter the descriptive information of the baby, the mother's pregnancy history and the information about the birth of the baby into the registry system • Question how breastfeeding is progressing • Question whether hepatitis B vaccine was administered as soon as the baby is born (P7) • Question whether the blood was collected from the heel for newborn screening (P6) • Question whether neonatal hearing screening has been carried out (Y8)
III. Evaluate the baby according to AŞ11

Perform a complete systemic examination of the baby • Wash hands before starting the examination (W11) • Measure the head circumference, weigh the baby and measure the height and mark your findings on the growth curves (Y3) • Record the fontonel sizes • Look at the baby's general appearance - Is it moving? - Is he crying with a lively voice? If your answer is no, it indicates the presence of a serious disease in the baby Refer for other neurological and metabolic causes, especially infection and hypoglycemia • Assess if there is a congenital anomaly (AŞ2) • Examine the skin (AŞ12) • Perform a head and neck examination (AŞ13) • Assess breathing and heart, palpate arterial femoral pulses • Check reflexes (Y4) • Assess baby's hearing (Y8) • Assess baby's vision (Y9a-b, AŞ7a) • Examine reproductive organs (AŞ14) 19
V. Counsel the mother on the following issues • Breastfeeding (AŞ10a-b) • Belly care (Y2) • Baby care (Y10) • Healthy communication with the baby (AŞ16) • Sleep (Y14) • Hand washing (Y11) • Protection from accidents (Y12a- b) Conditions that require immediate medical attention (fever, poor sucking, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, tendency to sleep, etc.)
VI. Assess and support the baby's development using the “Development Monitoring and Evaluation Guide” (Y15, AŞ 15-16).
VII. Monitor the mother to the puerperant • Question the mother's use of iron and vitamin D for herself • Take a hemoglobin measurement • Measure blood pressure • Take a temperature measurement • Check for bleeding • Give FP counseling to the mother

X. If you detect a problem with the baby during your evaluation, act according to the relevant instructions, refer the baby to a specialist if necessary (AŞ11)
